OK..so the general perception all around is that 2008 sucked! How could it not??
People lost tons of money on the stock market, Lay Offs, terrorism at its worst etc etc... Intersperse this with your own personal tragedies..death of a loved one, road accident of a friend, your cousin failing his board exam etc etc...and once again CRAPPY 2008!
Rewind to last year...I greeted 2008 with much pomp and splendour...it was probably one of my best new year nights ever...3 of my friends clinked clinked and toasted repeatedly for what they were personally gunning for..a) marriage b)children c)good job with good money....everyone was at their optimistic best...well..one is typically at their any-best if one has done many rounds of clink clinks ;) Couple this with statements like "2008 is your year..I can feel it" and one is bound to be swept away by the 'high' tide!
Fast forward to new year 2009..the same 3 friends clinked clinked and toasted repeatedly for what they were personally gunning for..this time however the toasts were all general "May ALL your dreams come true" was the safest toast...Cynicism and superstition had taken over...No one was optmistic inspite of the free flowing and excessive consumption of alchohol!
I really do believe I have become lighta cynical over the year...I was never a negative, pessimistic person..and I really dont want to start now...So this time I was careful not to wish for anythin in specific...cos I've learnt albeit the hard way - that only when one has expectations - the possibility of disappointment sets in...
So I begin 2009 on an hopefully positive note (well..cynicism cant be rubbed off in one day).. ;)
so..GOODBYE CRAPPY 2008, HELLO 2009!!! MAY ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE THIS YEAR!! :)

2008 started off very promisingly for me indeed, at twelve i was drunk dancing in the streets with people I didn't know. It ended with me drunk chasing my room-mate around the roof.
I can't agree more, about all that you had to say about 2008(absolutely crappy it was). Happy 2009 and may all our dreams come true!:)
yupp - may all your dreams come true
that line is more cliched than a beauty pageant contestant saying "world peace"
well for me if my year starts off crappy i start off again on my bday (whihc is in july) and basically renew the new yr resolutions as bday resolutions
its practical and like having 2 chances
i mean think about it - why do we pin our hopes to 1 jan of every yr - u might a well look fwd to things say 15 mar onwards or 24 may onwards or any random date onwards
right :P
[clearly - i have spent way too much time in the corporate world - what with mid yr and annual performance reviews and all creeping into the wya i plan my personal life]
and 2009 sucks already - better get better and soon!
I do hope 2009 is more promising than 2008!
a year is what you make it to be. but yeah in general 2008 was my worstest year as well. and without doubt 2009 is gonna rock. :)

@bhar - the year is wat u make it to be,...pffft...i dont like the philosophical u
@noodle - i speak the truth :)
